jennifer serchia
b. 3 december, 1983, buffalo NY

bio jennifer grew up in western new york with twin sister christine, younger sister franimal and generous parents frank and gerianne, respectively. much of her time was spent at her father’s truckstop or “trespassing” with the neighborhood kids on cayuga island.

since acquiring her b.f.a. degree at alfred university in may 2005, jennifer has traveled to avezzano, italy to meet her long-lost relatives, who claim she has mispronounced her surname for her entire life.

her current plans include relocating to new york city to step-up her game and her portfolio.

work her recent work focuses on the idea of "overdone", namely in terms of celebrity. the phrase 'overdone' applies to any person or phenomenon that has been overstated to the degree of becoming a secondary language (iconography) and consequently becomes understood immediately upon reference to be stored in one’s schema. these phenomena then become multi-dimensional: existing in reality and additionally functioning as symbols.

current projects:

the dumpy girl series
inspired by a conversation with fellow artist jenny hyde, this series features caricatures of young girls during the inevitable awkward stages of life (see photo, left).

2006ish
meant to be a love-letter to the future, romanticizing the present through portraits of gadgets, fashion and personalities. this series will eventually include a less glorified section for reality’s sake, but overall, it is meant to be a customized message to the future about the current.
